FED LOG

FED LOG is a software that can be used by engineering, technical research, provisioning, procurement/contracting, supply, cataloging, maintenance, distribution, storage, transportation, and quality assurance and disposal personnel.

FED LOG provides essential information about supply items to include the National Stock Number (NSN), Approved Item Name, Manufacturers and Distributors information, Freight Data, Hazardous Materiel Indicators, Interchangeable and Substitutable data, Acquisition Advice Code (AAC) and Unit Price, Physical and Performance Characteristics along with service-specific management data.

FED LOG is a product that can be used to look up National Stock Numbers (NSNs) on a CD-ROM and DVD. Engineers can use it, technical researchers, procurement/contracting, supply, cataloging, maintenance, distribution, storage, transportation, and quality assurance personnel.

The main purpose for the use of FED LOG is to update logistics information systems such as the Unit Level Logistics System (ULLS), Standard Army Retail Supply System (SARRS), and Standard Army Maintenance System (SAMS). Military organizations and civilian agencies can also use it to research part numbers, manufacturer and supplier data, freight and interchangeability, and substitutetutability.

Users of FED LOG are typically members of the Army, Marine Corps, or Navy. They may use the program on a personal computer, a laptop, or a tablet. The military also puts the software on their network so that more people can access it.

Fed LOG is an important tool for the Army because it allows them to keep their logistics information system up to date on parts and supplies with National Stock Numbers (NSNs). It can also be used to research information such as Manufacturer and Supplier Data, Freight, Hazardous Materiel Indicators, Interchangeability and Substitutability (I&S), Acquisition Advice Code (AAC), and Unit Price.

A new version of Fed LOG began distribution recently. This is the first real redesign of the software. It has been improved and enhanced to allow for single-line search requests, one-click spreadsheet exports, ranked searching, favorites and recent searches, maps for addresses (when approved), and a broader computer operating system compatibility, including 64-bit.

This upgrade of the software has been made to help maintain the integrity of the information. It also gives users the ability to search item information by manufacturer Part Number and saves the search history for quick lookup at a later time.

The new update’s main feature is that users can enter the National Stock Number or part number into a single search bar and get output data to assist in their logistician’s research. It will also give users the option to filter their results by four military seals to select service-specific management data elements.

FED LOG (Federal Logistics Information Service) is a searchable database of National Stock Numbers (NSNs) and associated product information that is available to the general public through FedMall and via Army Knowledge Online (AKO). It also has a special place in the hearts of military logisticians, who rely on its ubiquity to provide timely, accurate data when it matters most.

A new version of the software includes a slew of features that make it easier than ever to find exactly what you are looking for. These include an enhanced search engine, one-click spreadsheet export, ranked searching, favorites and recent searches, maps for addresses when approved, and the ability to see what else is available in the FED LOG library.

The new application owes its newfound power to the latest and greatest in Windows 8 technology. The program uses a touch-screen interface that is customizable to the user’s preferences. It also includes a new scrolling format that enables more screen real estate for the search engine, said Rogers. Other tidbits include a single-line search request, a streamlined user interface, and a broader computer operating system compatibility, including 64-bit.

In addition to the new FED LOG application, a new website was recently launched by DLA. The site is a one-stop shop for information on the federal logistics database, including FED LOG, FMS, and DLA’s many other supply systems. It’s a great way for logisticians to save time and money while ensuring that the right supplies are in the right hands when needed.

FED LOG is a highly portable and reliable logistics information source that provides users with essential information about items of supply. This information includes the National Stock Number (NSN), Approved Item Name, Manufacturers and Distributors data to include Part Numbers, Freight Data, Hazardous Materiel Indicators, Interchangeable and Substitutable data, Acquisition Advice Code (AAC) and Unit Price, Physical and Performance Characteristics along with service-specific management data.

It is used by logisticians, engineering support activities, provisioning, procurement/contracting, supply, maintenance, distribution, storage, transportation, and quality assurance personnel to retrieve key elements and management data from routine daily research to weapons system support analysis. It provides a comprehensive, single source of unclassified controlled unclassified information (CUI) from the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) and other sources in the Federal Logistics Information System (FLIS).

The DLA maintains FEDLOG on five compact discs or one DVD containing all program and data from the CD-ROM set. The DLA also makes it available as a free download on FedMall for users with internet access to access the data in near real-time.

To obtain FEDLOG, customers must submit a System Authorization Access Request (SAAR) via the Army Enterprise Portal to request access. Once the SAAR is approved, users will have a FEDLOG Addressing System User Role.

All FEDLOG users must have a valid AKO account and be signed in to their AKO. Once logged in, the FEDLOG tool can be found under the Tools menu at the top of the screen.

Users can download a ‘Complete’ version of FEDLOG which contains Characteristics, CAGE, History, and History Data, or they can select a ‘Lite’ version of the software which does not contain these data sets. This is designed to download quicker and operate the same as the Complete version.

Once downloaded, users can access the data in a scroll format, making it compatible with multiple platforms and scalable to the size of the screen. The scroll format also allows for easy navigation of the database.

The FedLog data sets are published monthly and restricted, controlled, and Unclassified Information (CUI). They are only available to NATO, and NATO Sponsored Countries, Federal and Civilian Agencies, Government Contractors, and Department of Defense.
